Today I am reviewing Baieido Kaden Kobunboku incense sticks.
I received these incense sticks as a sample in a plastic tube alongside some other incense sticks which I have recently purchased.
Kaden Kobunboku is an “Old Family Secret” passed down by Baieido from generation to generation.
Kobunboku translates into ‘expression of the plum tree’, but is more of an abstract fragrance concept, rather then being true plum fragrance.
Main Ingredients: Sandalwood, Vietnamese aloeswood, cassia, borneol camphor and traditional Chinese herbs.

Review
It seems to have the aroma of a mild Vietnamese agarwood, with a decent bit of sandalwood sweetness to back it up. A bit of camphor and a decent amount of spice are in there as well, but they aren’t harsh, nor do they dominate the fragrance profile. There is also an airy green scent from the Chinese herbs, and I almost smell a hint of berry.
This does seem similar to it’s more expensive counterpart, Baieido Tokusen Kobunboku. It seems to have it’s own character, but it certainly doesn’t have the same agarwood depth as the Tokusen version.
This a very traditional incense fragrance, and the scent is very decent for the price.
That being said, it’s a quality incense stick and definitely worth trying.
