Shunkohdo Matsuba Pine Incense Review

Shunkohdo Matsuba Pine Incense Sticks

Today’s review is Shunkohdo Matsuba Pine incense sticks.

Supposedly this incense formulation smells like pine needles, rather then a wooden pine log.

Main Ingredients: Stone Pine and other spices.

Review

This smells interesting. The primary scent is definitely pine, but I believe there is some cedar or sandalwood in there as well. It doesn’t seem to smell like burning wood, but I am not sure if I would say it smells quite like the pine needles. It’s probably somewhere between the middle.

That being said, it definitely reminds me of being in the middle of a pine forest and I think they did a good job formulating this incense blend.

There aren’t to many Japanese pine incense blends out there, and I would say this is probably one of the better ones I have had the pleasure of experiencing. The only one that I have tried which is probably better is Shoyeido Friend of Pine, although they come at a much higher price.

I’ve probably mentioned this before, but I am a huge fan of camphor in my incense sticks. I’m not sure if there is any camphor in this blend or not, but I think some added camphor, or even benzoin resin, could enhance the fragrance profile of this incense stick.
