Today I am reviewing Shoyeido Cherry Blossoms (kyo-zakura) incense sticks.
The Shoyeido website states this as the product description:
To inspire visions of spring days, we’ve artfully combined rhubarb, clove, cinnamon, and other herbs and spices to create this refreshing fragrance. The rhubarb adds a pleasantly tart quality to stimulate the senses.
These incense sticks are a light green color.
The primary scents are supposedly sandalwood, cinnamon, and benzoin.
Review
The first thing I smell is sandalwood and benzoin. This incense formulation seems to contain more benzoin then many of Shoyeido’s other incense sticks. It’s almost like this is the feature here. What makes this incense interesting is that there are wisps of fruit and cinnamon that seem to come and go. It has a certain tartness to it.
The advertised burn time for this incense stick is about 50 minutes, and seems about accurate.
The first few times I burned this incense, for whatever reason, I didn’t care for it so much. However, after burning it a few times, it’s grown on me quite a bit. If you’re looking for a low-cost Japanese benzoin-forward sandalwood incense, with some spice and fruit overtones, then this may be right up your alley.
