Today I am going to be reviewing Shoyeido King’s Aroma incense sticks.

The product description says:

An elegant blend of fine sandalwood and herbs. King’s Aroma exudes the sophistication and ease of a bygone era.

The main scents are listed as agarwood, sandalwood, patchouli, but there are clearly other materials contained within, as the ‘herbs’ stated within the description don’t seem to be specifically mentioned.

King’s Aroma Review

The first thing you smell upon lighting this incense is the quality sandalwood used in the formulation. This isn’t some cheap sandalwood, but likely high-quality sandalwood from the Mysore region of India.

After that, you begin to smell the patchouli and other herbs noted in the product description. Strangely, it has a relatively strong fenugreek note. I was really liking it at first, but as the incense burned down, I found myself wishing perhaps it had a little less. The patchouli is noticeable as well, but not overwhelming.

One thing I liked about this incense is that the sandalwood is clearly in the spotlight. This is definitely a ‘sandalwood-forward’ incense.

Unfortunately I didn’t find the agarwood scent to be particularly present in this incense. It’s scent was actually hard for me to detect. However, keep in mind that this is the cheapest varietal of Shoyeido’s premium incense line, and quality agarwood is not by any means cheap.

Conclusion

While these are very nice sandalwood incense sticks, they smell rather basic, and while the fenugreek note is nice, it was maybe just a tad to much for my tastes, as I felt the fenugreek fragrance overshadowed the inherent complexity of the herb blend.

Additionally, it is noted as having agarwood as the main fragrance component, but yet, it was hard to detect any within it’s fragrance profile.

I hope you found this information beneficial.
