Today I am going to be reviewing Shoyeido Eternal Treasure incense sticks.
The product description says:
Well over 100 years old — and based on an older recipe yet – Eternal Treasure is one of Shoyeido’s most traditional, best-known fragrances. To nurture abundance and fortune.
The fragrance profile supposedly consists primarily of sandalwood, clove, cinnamon, and spices.
It’s interesting that this 100 year old recipe was actually based on an even older recipe.
Eternal Treasure Fragrance Review
This one started smelling a little smokey and I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it. After it burned down for a few minutes, the smell developed into a sandalwood and spice base combined with an interesting note of patchouli.
The sandalwood, patchouli, and clove are blended quite nicely.
The true art of incense crafting is not in the ingredients you use but how you incorporate them into a blend to create something unique. Many of these Japanese incenses use the same or similar ingredients, yet most of them end up smelling unique in at least some way.
It has a sort of herbaceous quality to it as well.
This incense does indeed smell traditional and it reminds me of older times.
The smoke it produces seems light and wispy, rather then dense.
If I could change one thing about this incense, I would probably add some (or possibly more) benzoin. I feel it would really elevate the fragrance of this incense, but perhaps that is more of a personal preference then anything.
Conclusion
For a Japanese-style incense stick, these are relatively inexpensive and smell delightful for the price.
These incense sticks are worth your money.
What I really like about them is that they smell traditional.
