Today I am going to be reviewing Shoyeido Golden Pavilion incense sticks.

If you prefer incense that is a bit more on the earthy/spicy side without sacrificing the traditional subtlety of Japanese incense, Golden Pavilion fits the bill.
The fragrance profile is supposedly consists primarily of sandalwood, clove, patchouli, benzoin, and spices.
Golden Pavilion Fragrance Review
This is an interesting incense. It’s nature is basic, and smells primarily of sandalwood, cinnamon, patchouli, and benzoin. There’s possibly some clove in there as well.
However, the patchouli and benzoin are blended in a playful way. The benzoin provides an earthy richness while the patchouli floral notes dance on-top of it. The patchouli almost has a citrus note. It’s also a tad bit sweet.
For a Japanese style incense stick, the fragrance permeates quite well and is not weak or light.
It’s a rather smooth incense, but can be harsh if you get a whiff of nearby smoke.
Conclusion
These are relatively inexpensive for Japanese incense and produce quite a lovely fragrance.
I could see myself purchasing these again.
